Le Pitch
Arno Schmidt's trilogy, prefaced by Marie Darrieussecq, is considered his masterpiece. It consists of "Scènes de la vie d'un faune", "Brand's Haide", and "Miroirs noirs". "Les Enfants de Nobodaddy" describes life in Germany from the Nazi era to the post-war years and a post-apocalyptic future. "Scènes de la vie d'un faune" tells the dull existence of a state official who escapes the daily grind of war by researching a deserter from Napoleon's army, whom he calls the "Faun". "Brand's Haide" focuses on the chaos of the immediate post-war period, through the story of a man who joins a small community of refugees trying to invent a "new life". "Miroirs noirs" delves into a future where civilization has been destroyed. The narrator lives in fear of being the last human on Earth. He writes... and it doesn't matter if there are no more readers, because the writer must perpetuate memory and imagination at all costs. Afficher moinsAfficher plus
